The 27th International Academic Mindtrek conference is looking for student volunteers – could that be you?
It will take place in Paidia Living Lab of Play in Tampere, between the 8th and 11th October 2024. The conference will also be accessible through high-quality streaming.
The call for Student Volunteers is now open until September 20th to all students currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program!
The effectiveness and smooth running of a conference relies on the Student Volunteers! They are the very core of a successful conference. It is an excellent opportunity for you to learn, network, connect, and gain experience from all of it!
● Participate in the conference: Free registration (either online or in Tampere), covering the conference fee, coffee for the days you are attending, and access to the same resources available to the other attendees (except for workshops). It does not cover travel or accommodation expenses.
● Hear great speakers: Expand your knowledge outside the classroom through close interaction with contributors (i.e., full papers, poster presentations and
discussions) on a variety of topics and domains (e.g., gamification, playable cities, metaverse, human-nature interactions, robotic and conversational interactions, technology in education).
● Gain experience: Being a student volunteer is an excellent opportunity to immerse yourself in an environment that integrates leading academic and
industry researchers and practitioners to improve your communication and research skills while contributing to organising a conference. Being a SV also looks good on your CV!
● Network: Meet and exchange ideas with leading individuals in the community from academia and industry by interacting closely with contributors, attendees, and other students worldwide. Such interactions often help shape the research direction for many students while also assisting in establishing your network for current and future endeavours.
● SV Fashion: Receive a patch for your student overall, as well as a beanie or t-shirt.
Academic Mindtrek is primarily looking for enthusiastic and reliable volunteers who are:
● proficient in English (other languages are a plus!)
● have basic computer knowledge – you can work with Word, and have joined a Zoom call before.
● enrolled in any undergraduate or graduate program at the time of the conference
● (optional/extra) proficient with Discord, Zoom and other live-streaming environments (e.g. OBS, Twitch)
We welcome both experienced and students new to volunteering – whether you are a conference expert or a complete newbie, you can help Mindtrek become a success!
You will be working during the main conference days, as well as help with the preparations before that. The estimated workload will be 12-15 hours. We will do our best to take your availability, specific interests and abilities into consideration when assigning your tasks. Some examples of tasks from previous years include:
● Working at the registration desk, by providing badges or virtual access
● Providing general information about the conference to the attendees
● Helping people to find their ways to correct rooms
● Report and/or solve technical problems in sessions
● Assisting speakers in setting up their presentations
● Giving general assistance and running errands
● Writing blog posts about presentations from the conference.
Please note that you are expected to attend an orientation session before the conference, arrive at Paidia in Tampere in due time, and show up on time for the assigned tasks. More details will be provided upon acceptance.
If you are keen to join and you understand the responsibilities, apply to be a student volunteer here.
We look forward to meeting and working with you!
